LG smart TVs run webOS, LG’s own operating system, and get their apps from the LG Content Store. That matters for IPTV because you cannot sideload a player the way you would on a Fire TV Stick, and there is no Google Play. An IPTV LG TV setup therefore starts with a search in the Content Store, and what you find depends on your model year and region. Most recent sets have at least one workable player; older ones may have none.
This guide covers what to have ready, how to find and install a player, how MAC-based activation works, how to enter your login details and guide, and what to do when the Content Store comes up empty.
Before you start: the IPTV LG TV checklist
IPTV (Internet Protocol television) sends live channels and on-demand video over your broadband connection. Your subscription supplies the streams, and a player app displays them. Have these ready.
- Username, password and server URL. This set is called an Xtream Codes login. Some apps instead want a single M3U playlist link, which contains the same information in one long address. IPTVOID emails both after an order or trial request. Use the newest email; server addresses can change.
- The EPG URL, if one was sent. The program guide is a separate feed from the video. Some apps fetch it automatically; others want the address typed in.
- Your TV’s webOS version, found under Settings (look for About this TV). It helps if you need to ask whether an app is compatible.
- A phone or laptop, since some apps are activated and configured on the developer’s website.
- A decent connection. One HD stream needs roughly 5 to 8 Mbps, Full HD 8 to 12 Mbps, 4K 25 Mbps or more, with room for other devices. LG TVs have an Ethernet port; a cable is more stable than Wi-Fi. If you use Wi-Fi, pick the 5 GHz network when the router is nearby.
Your IPTV username is usually not your email address, and your IPTV password is not your LG account password or the password for the IPTVOID website. Mixing these up is the single most common reason a first login fails.
Step 1: Find a player in the LG Content Store
The first IPTV LG TV step is a search, and it decides everything that follows.
- Press the Home button on the remote. On the launcher bar, select the LG Content Store (on newer webOS versions it may simply be called Apps).
- If the TV asks you to sign in with an LG account, do so or create one. This is LG’s account for the store, nothing to do with your IPTV login.
- Open the search function and type the app name. Start with
IPTV Smarters Pro, thenSmart IPTV, thenIBO Player. The IPTVOID setup guide lists other supported players if none of these appear. - Open the listing, check the developer name to avoid look-alike apps, and select Install.
- Once installed, the app appears on the launcher bar. Open it.
What if nothing shows up?
The LG Content Store shows apps based on the TV’s region and software version. If an IPTV LG TV search returns nothing, run a software update (look for Software Update under Support or General) and search again with slightly different spellings, since app names in TV stores are not always consistent. LG’s help pages at lg.com/us/support list which webOS version each model runs. If the store still has no player, skip to the external stick option in the troubleshooting section rather than fighting the TV all evening.
Step 2: Activate the app by MAC address, if required
Not every IPTV LG TV app needs this step. Some webOS players, Smart IPTV and IBO Player among them, tie themselves to your TV with a one-time activation on the developer’s website; the fee is small, goes to that developer, and is separate from any IPTVOID plan. If your app, IPTV Smarters Pro for instance, opens straight to a login form, jump to Step 3.
- Open the app on the TV. The first screen displays a MAC address and sometimes a device key. Note both carefully; letters and numbers are easy to confuse on a TV screen.
- On your phone or laptop, open the developer’s own website and find the activation page. Enter the MAC address and key, then pay the fee if one applies. Some developers offer a short trial period first.
- Stay on the website and find the playlist section. Paste your complete M3U link, or enter the server URL, username and password if an Xtream option is offered. Save.
- Return to the TV and restart the app. It now loads the playlist attached to its MAC address.
Use the MAC address shown in the app. Your TV has one address for wired and another for wireless, so the network menu may show a different one, and activating the wrong one wastes the fee.
Step 3: Enter your login and add the EPG
Xtream Codes login
- In the app, look for Login with Xtream Codes API or a similar option.
- Give the profile a name, then type your username, password and server URL. Include
http://orhttps://and any port number after the colon, exactly as in the email. - Select Add User or Login. The channel list loads; large lists take a minute or so the first time.
M3U link
If you have one long link rather than three details, look for Load your playlist or file/URL (or a similarly named M3U option), paste the entire link including everything after the question mark, and confirm. The link carries your username and password, so do not share it.
EPG
With an Xtream login the guide usually appears on its own. If channels play but the guide shows nothing, look for an EPG field in the app’s settings or on the developer’s playlist page, paste the EPG URL from your email, and refresh. The guide is downloaded separately from the video, so a blank guide with working channels is only a configuration gap.
Make it pleasant to use
A few webOS touches make an IPTV LG TV setup nicer to live with. The Magic Remote’s pointer is handy for small on-screen buttons, while the directional pad is better for scrolling long channel lists. Most LG remotes let you assign a number key as a shortcut to an app (look for Quick Access), so the player opens with one long press.
Inside the app, build a favorites group as soon as the channels load; a dozen favorites turn a list of thousands into something the whole household can use. And if the picture stutters on Wi-Fi, run an Ethernet cable before changing anything else.
IPTV LG TV troubleshooting
- App missing from the Content Store. Update the TV’s software and try again. If the app is still absent, the model or region is not supported; use a stick (below).
- Login rejected. Re-enter all three details. Compare the server URL with the newest email. Confirm the subscription or trial is active and that nobody else is streaming on the same account; a standard subscription allows one stream at a time.
- Activation not recognized. Check you used the MAC address from the app’s own screen. Wait a few minutes, then close and reopen the app.
- Black screen with channel names. Try several channels. Unplug the TV for thirty seconds and try again. If one app fails consistently, try a different one from the list; webOS players have few playback settings to adjust.
- Buffering. Switch to Ethernet or 5 GHz, and test outside peak hours. Buffering during big live events is often server load or local Wi-Fi congestion, not the TV.
If the same login works on your phone but not on the LG, the series post IPTV Works on Your Phone but Not Your TV? Here’s What to Check is written for that case. For anything else, IPTVOID support answers by WhatsApp and email 24/7.
The external stick fallback
An LG from before about 2016, or any model whose store lacks a player, is best treated as a display. Plug a Fire TV Stick or an Android TV box into an HDMI port, install TiviMate, and you get a better guide and more settings than any webOS app offers.
Frequently asked questions
Does IPTV work on every LG smart TV?
No. It depends on whether the LG Content Store offers a player for your model, which varies by year and region. Older sets often have none, in which case an external stick is the practical answer.
Why does the app want a fee when I already pay for a subscription?
The subscription pays for the streams. Some webOS apps charge a one-time activation fee that goes to the app developer, who is independent of your provider. Free alternatives exist, so check the listing before installing.
Can I watch on the LG and on a second TV at the same time?
Not on one standard subscription. You can set up as many devices as you like, but only one stream plays at a time.
Is the process different on a Samsung?
Different store, different system, same idea. Samsung TVs run Tizen and use the Samsung app store. The series has a dedicated guide, How to Watch IPTV on a Samsung Smart TV.
The bottom line on IPTV on an LG TV
A successful IPTV LG TV setup comes down to three things: find a player in the LG Content Store, activate it on the developer’s site if the app requires that, and type your username, password and server URL exactly as emailed. If the store has nothing for your model, a stick in the HDMI port solves it in an evening.
Test on your own TV before you buy a long plan. The IPTVOID 24-hour free trial gives you a working login with no credit card, which is all you need to find out whether the app, the TV and your connection get along.
